2013 nissan altima won't shift out of park

My 2013 nissan altima won't let me move the shifter out of park. Mechanic's Assistant: Do you have brake lights? Have any trouble codes popped up? My brake lights fine, I'm pretty sure. So basically my key actually isn't recognized, so I've had a warning sign forever since I need to replace it, but the warning sign keeps showing on/off.
